What do they do?

They are an organization in which the main priniple is to get the most out of studying the ancient civilizations of Grece and Rome. They also organize special functions that help people better understand and apprectiate the Roman Culture.

Vomitorium

During a true Roman Banquet, if a guest became full before the final course they would visit the "Vomitorium". There they would empty the contents of their stomach, wash their hands, and return to their meal.

Decimation

In the Roman army, if the men fled during a battle and survived, they would be subject to a practice called "decimation". First they would line up the entire legion in a long row. Every tenth person in line would be pulled out and stoned to death by the other nine.

What's inside a Bulla?

Roman Children where given a protective amulet, called a "bulla", at birth that they removed and kept for special occasions after their wedding, or for boys, once they became a citizen. They would where it on days of victory to protect them from jealosy of others. The strange thing, however, was that, inside the bulla, along with some preserving herbs, was the childs ambilical cord !!!

This is Ad Kalendas Graecas ! Home of the Necrolinguists. "Ad Kalendas Graecas" (AKG) means "On The Greek Kalends" (OTGK). Since the Kalendas is a Roman concept, the Greeks did not have a Kalendas. In other words, it more correctly translates to "When Pigs Fly". This site is basicly a humor and information site. Ad Kalendas Graecas is set up as a Wiki site so that you can add information and humor of your own.

How to Participate:

If you'd like to contribute to our site, all you have to do is create a wiki acount for yourself. All it requires is a username (this can be either your first name or any other made up name you decide to use), a password and a valid email address. We do ask that you read the Rules before posting or changing anything. At the end of this paragraph I will include the date of the last time the rules where changed so that you will know if you need to check them out again. The rules are fairly brief and it is a requirement that you obey them, so it's up to you to keep your self informed and current. If you do not your account will be blocked.

What are "Necrolinguists"?

Necrolinguist is a term I came up with in reference to people who study "dead" languages, especialy Latin. You will often see me refer to myself as well as certain other people as Necrolinguists, now you know what I mean!
